Fairmont M19-M60

Photos of section cars in service are quite rare. I suppose the gangers and fitters thought that they were just another tool to get the God-foresaken job done.

This photo was given to me by a work colleague. He ran an M19-Z63 in the Adelaide Hills during 1979, fleet number M60. She was acquired by the SAR in the 1958/59 financial year, at a cost of £595.

The photo shows the car sitting in Bridgewater Yard, after a run out to Balhannah. It still has its original SAR windshield.

When Robbo provided me with the photo, I knew the car was familiar. I had a dig and found this photo.

Here it is in 1997 on a "trolley-bash" at the Limestone Coast Railway, Mt Gambier. We had a spanking good time running her. Lisa was not waiting at the platform this trip

Note the Australian National Cab. Her last depot was, apparently Keith. She is understood to be in use on the South Gippsland Railway - home to the VR's only M19-Z63.

Sadly, Limestone Coast have decided to pull the pin (October 2007), so the days of running there are over. Best Wishes to Bill Towner for all the work he put in trying to keep the organisation operational; a truly phenomenal effort.
