Wickham Type Four - SAR BG unit
These photos are of the Engine, Diff and builders plate of a Type Four in the National Railway Museum at Port Adelaide.
The plate confirms this as a Type Four, with a JAP motor, Serial number 933209 car number 7328.
This car was built for broad gauge use (probably for the SAR as a trial unit) and delivered in 1956.
Records also indicate that the SAR also took delivery of a Type 4 (BN 7414, of July, 1956) on 42".
A Type 27 (7327) also came to SA, but to whom remains a mystery.
One wonders if this was the trial car, and that the heavier Fairmont cars won the competition. Perhaps a rather rare Wickham indeed!
